I was as surprised as anyone when I heard that Exo would be making yet another comeback this year. And I was even happier when I actually heard the song.

EXO’s “Miracles in December” is the perfect winter ballad. It starts off with a piano, and soon the vocals begin. There is no drum, and the voices of the members are soft and gentle. In both the Chinese and Korean versions, Chen sings most of the high notes, and provides a sharp contrast from the rest of the members- D.O. and Baekhyun in the Korean version and Baekhyun and Luhan in the Chinese version. There are violins in the background that come in with the chorus and continue throughout the song. There is a subtle use of vocal harmonies which brings a new level of depth into the music.

I give this song a 9.4/10. Though it is catchy and very well executed, there is nothing that truly stands out. Of course, all the members are extremely talented, but the song itself does not have that “WOW” element to it, something that I hope to see from groups like EXO.
